“What’s Inside My Head”

"What's Inside My Head"

The Beginning of Something New

IMG_2354I am shifting the focus of how I grade my classes this year. I am leaving behind the evaluation of projects and responding to students’ ideas and reflections about their work. While it scary to let go of my old ways of creating objective rubrics to assess projects, it is exhilarating to send off “my” projects and welcome in the students’ projects! This time last year, I watched “Dead Poets Society” and the scene that stuck with me this time was Mr. Keating instructing the students to rip the prescribed evaluation of poetry from the textbook. Cut loose from the constraints and create; then explain, reflect and respond to your ceramic artwork.
